Match Report

We returned to Premier Sports Cup action this afternoon with a home tie against William Hill Championship side Dunfermline Athletic.

The Pars, managed by former Celtic boss Neil Lennon, arrived at the Rock to provide a stern test as we looked to build on Tuesday evening’s opening group stage win over Stirling Albion.

Manager Stevie Farrell made four changes to the starting eleven from midweek, with Ollie Ecrepont, Cammy Clark, Kai Kirkpatrick, and Leighton McIntosh all coming into the side. Shay Kelly, Adam Livingstone, Tony Falconer, and Ally Roy dropped out.

Young Son Dean Rhappozzoh remained among the substitutes after his recent promotion to the first-team squad.

Dunfermline kicked off shooting towards the water and saw plenty of the ball in the early stages, dominating possession.

Despite that, it was the Sons who carved out the first real chances of the match. Cammy Clark and Morgyn Neill both forced visiting goalkeeper Deniz Mehmet into early saves as we looked to capitalise on our early attacking momentum.

However, it was the visitors who struck first. Josh Cooper found space on the edge of the area and curled a fine effort beyond Ecrepont to give the Pars the lead.

They went close to a second shortly after, with efforts from Kane Ritchie-Hosler, Chris Kane, and John Tod all missing the target or being blocked by determined Sons defending.

But Dunfermline would double their advantage right on the stroke of half-time.

Ewan Otoo found space down the flank and cut the ball back into the area. Cooper cleverly dummied it, allowing Chris Kane to thunder home a strike and leave us two goals down at the interval.

It would be three soon into the second period, Andrew Tod would find himself in on goal after coming on at the break and he would round Ecrepont to extend the Pars lead.

The game then devolved into a series of half chances and niggly fouls as the Sons looked to keep it tight and avoid any more goals.

Aron Lynas would come off the bench to replace Morgyn Neill, making his 100^th Dumbarton appearance.

The match would end at 4-0 after a tough afternoon for the side against a team two leagues above, we will take lessons from this into next weeks match away to William Hill Premiership side Hearts as we look to test ourselves against a top level opposition.
