Teenage stopper Shay first joined Dumbarton on loan from St Mirren in February 2025, as the club faced a keeper crisis following injuries suffered by Brett Long and Owen Hayward.

After serving as deputy to Queen’s Park loanee Milosz Sliwinski, Kelly grabbed his first team chance with both hands – playing five times, saving three penalties and tasting defeat just once in his debut season as a Dumbarton player.

That made him a top summer target for boss Stevie Farrell, who moved to bring him to the club on a permanent deal in the summer window.

Shay is the third sibling in his family to play professionally, with brothers Liam (currently at Rangers) and Sean (currently at Cambodian side Boeung Ket) both vastly experienced in the SPFL.

Shay left the club in June 2026.
