MATCH PREVIEW: DUMBARTON VS DUNFERMLINE ATHLETIC
Dumbarton continue their Premier Sports Cup campaign tomorrow afternoon with the visit of Dunfermline Athletic on match day three of the competition [kick-off 3:00pm].
Sons kicked off their competitive season with a 1-0 win over Stirling Albion on Tuesday after sitting out on the opening day, with an own goal from Kyle Banner enough to earn the home side three points at the Marbill Coaches Stadium.
The Pars are searching for their first win in the group after being convincingly defeated by Hearts in their only game so far, going down 4-1 at Tynecastle on Saturday, though it wasn’t without a fight as the Edinburgh side were made to work for their victory.
Boss Farrell was encouraged by the performance on Tuesday but knows sterner tests lie ahead, with the next three games up against sides from higher up the Scottish football pyramid.
Speaking post-match on Tuesday, he said: “It’s a good start but it’s nothing more than that. It’s always good to get your first win of the season in front of the home fans.
“I thought we played better when they had 11-men. It’s always difficult against ten men because you have an extra option and you don’t play the ball as quick.
“We showed resilience when they had a few corners at the end but over the piece I thought we deserved to win the game.
“We’ve got good options all over the pitch and we’re going to need the squad in the front end of the season.”
In team news, Brett Long and Dom Docherty remain sidelined whilst Adam Livingstone picked up a slight knock on Tuesday and will not be risked.
Supporters attending the Marbill Coaches Stadium are advised to avoid queuing by purchasing tickets in advance. Only one ticketing window will be open, at the right-side of the main entrance, for both sets of supporters. Tickets can be purchased via Fanbase. Bar 72 will be open from 1:30pm, welcoming fans for pre-match refreshments.
Dumbarton fans will also have the opportunity to purchase their tickets for the trip to Hearts on Wednesday. Tickets must be purchased in advance with no pay at the gate or on the day sales.
