Ahead of the first pre-season match of the new season our women’s team manager Gerry Gallacher has spoken to the club site ahead of the campaign.
He said: “After such a competent team performance last time from our young squad, where they held their own, were never outplayed and never out-thought or bullied playing against experienced quality opposition last season, it’s good to be back.
“Our training starts back mid-July, quickly followed by pre-season friendlies each weekend starting Sunday 20th July until the League Cup commences on 10th August.
“Holidays and confirmation from a couple of players mean it will be early August, before the squad is all up to full complement and ready for a good run of SWFL ScottishPower Cup fixtures
“With one or two players still to confirm, and Olivia Oliver moving on, it does put a renewed focus on strengthening the squad for this upcoming campaign.
“We have an eye on a few players. We will see how that develops as SWFL signing deadlines are early next year.
“It has been a pleasure to listen to club owner Mario Lapointe chat regarding the direction he sees for the club overall, and about his full support for our women’s side.
“To accommodate the ever-growing women’s game, the SFA, together with SWFL, has completed a bit of restructuring for the new season.
“The previous 5 regional leagues of 10 are now reshuffled across the country into 4 leagues of 12.
“From Jan 2026, a new standalone reserve/development league(s) comprising last season’s SWFL development teams, new ones, and any club 18s sides aging out this season’s end (Dec 25) will take shape.
“SWFL Central is removed, with former central teams spread out geographically to form new SWFL Central-West, East, North and South leagues.
“We will now play in the SWFL Central-West, which, by all accounts, has resulted in a stronger and even more competitive league for our girls.
“A great challenge ahead that we are all looking forward to. I believe it’s the way forward and hope for its success.
“We have had good crowds, atmosphere and all-around great support at the club these past few weeks and we hope this crosses over onto the women’s side.”
