Former Northern Ireland youth international Brett is now in his fourth season as a Dumbarton player, but is battling back from a second serious injury in as many years.

A youth player with Cliftonville, Dundee United and Motherwell, he spent time on loan at Forfar Athletic, Clyde, Cliftonville and Elgin City – before a permanent switch to East Fife in 2018.

Across his two seasons at New Bayview he made his name as one of the best goalkeepers in the part-time game, and continued to build his reputation with an impressive season at Peterhead.

He returned to the central belt with Sons in the summer of 2022, setting a club record for the most clean sheets recorded by a single keeper in one season.

His second campaign ended in December with a serious ankle break that sidelined him for almost six months, before the curse struck again just over a year later – as a snapped Achilles again forced him to spend a lengthy spell on the treatment table.

After a short spell on loan at West of Scotland League side Beith in late 2025, Long returned to first team action for the Sons in January 2026.
