Fifty not out as Webby hits Sons landmark
Kristian Webster has marked a significant milestone in his Sons career after making his 50th appearance against Stirling Albion.
The 21-year-old is a regular at the Rock and has spoken of the importance of consistent senior football to his development.
The defender, son of former Scotland international Andy, initially joined us on loan from the Rangers academy, before making the move permanent last summer.
Webster has quickly become a stand out within the Sons squad, adapting to multiple roles across the backline and midfield as he approaches two seasons of senior football at the Rock.
Speaking on reaching 50 appearances, Webster highlighted how much he has enjoyed his time at the Rock and the value of playing regularly at senior level.
“I’ve really enjoyed it,” he said.
“Game after game, going out and enjoying playing football and actually playing well.”
Since arriving, Webster has featured in a variety of positions, underlining his versatility and love of playing the game.
“I’ve played centre mid, right of a back three, wing-back, full-back,” he explained.
“It’s all experience that helps you going forward.”
Now firmly established in the side, Webster says the key focus remains on maintaining momentum as Dumbarton look to finish the season strongly after securing safety with the win over the Binos.
“We’re just taking it game by game,” he added.
“We want to finish the season as strong as possible.”
He has been one of the key figures in our recent turnaround, with his aggression mixed well with composure under pressure within the now-settled backline at the Marbill Coaches Stadium.
“This season has been a wee bit up and down,” he said.
“There have been some things that we can’t control but we’ve come through the back of it to go nine games unbeaten now.
“It’s really enjoyable, going game after game, going out and enjoying playing football, playing down here and actually playing well in front of all the fans backing you.”
Kristian has quickly become a real top voice within our dressing room – showing his leadership abilities and guiding some of the younger faces around the Rock, including our new Rangers’ loanee Alexander Smith.
“I am definitely able to offer him advice and to anybody who’s coming along from other clubs,” he explained.
“Obviously I’ve lived that from last season and I can understand that it’s quite daunting coming into a first team changing room for the first time, especially being younger.
“But he’s handling himself really well, as you can see on the pitch he’s really comfortable. I don’t know how much advice I can give him on a football point of view, but anything that he needs I’m always there for him.”
Congratulations Kristian, here’s to the next fifty!
