Owen aims to build on first SPFL goal
Celtic loanee Owen Hartington was delighted to score his first SPFL goal as we came from behind to defeat Forfar Athletic 2-1 at The Rock – Sponsored by Marbill Coaches.
The midfielder played a key role in our comeback victory, finding the net as we overturned a half-time deficit to secure a fourth consecutive home win.
The result was made even more special for our Celtic loanee as he opened his account in the SPFL – just 10 days after scoring his first goal as a Son against Kilmarnock B.
“Yeah, it was really good, great to get my first goal for the club and then my first SPFL goal,” he said.
“I thought it was a hard first-half, the wind was quite bad. But in the second half we really improved and it was good to get two goals and just win the game.”
The 18-year-old has continued to settle into life with us and believes his performances have improved after initially finding himself battling for a spot in Frank McKeown’s starting XI.
Hartington admitted it was difficult not to start some of our early games but feels he has responded positively.
“I’ve really enjoyed it so far,” he said. “At the beginning I didn’t start a couple of games, and as a player that’s never great, but then I think I’ve really stepped up my performance and it’s good to get in the starting eleven again.”
The victory over Forfar was Sons’ fourth consecutive win, giving the squad plenty of confidence heading into a challenging fixture away from The Rock for the first time in almost a month – with a trip to New Douglas Park to face Clyde tomorrow.
“Clyde are a really hard side to play,” Owen added.
“We said that last game we played them, we beat them here, but our away form’s not been great. I’m hoping to step it up again and just keep winning games.”
