John Brooks
All at Dumbarton FC are sorry to hear of the passing of long-term fan John Brooks.
John, who was dad to three daughters and Papa to his grandchildren and great grandchildren, was a life-long Dumbarton and Scotland fan.
Football was a large part of John’s life. He was a proud and passionate Dumbarton fan and followed the game throughout his life. His love of football began at a young age, when he played at youth level, and later continued through coaching at youth level, giving him the opportunity to share his knowledge and passion for the game with the next generation. His love of football continued through his family life, as he relived his youth and created new memories with the next generations of his family.
This love of the game was passed on to his three daughters, his seven grandchildren and his two great-grandchildren. John was often the first to take them to their first live game, whether at the old Boghead Stadium or at The Rock. Through the years, and despite the various changes of management and name, John continued to attend the games and take the next generation of his family along with him.
Football gave John not only his love of the game, but also great friendships, wonderful memories, a sense of belonging and immense pride – especially in his granddaughter, Hannah Cameron. He was a constant fixture on the sidelines at her games and was immensely proud to see her play for several teams at youth level .
He was immensely proud of her achievements, as well as those of all his daughters, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His love, support and great sense of humour made him extremely popular around Dumbarton and further afield, particularly at Dumbarton Golf Club.
John’s love of football was only rivalled by his love of golf, his family and his friends. He will be deeply missed by everyone who knew him. His passion for football and golf, his devotion to his family, and the friendships he made throughout his life will ensure that his memory lives on.
He will be sadly missed by them all.
Rest in Peace, John.
