Darren strengthens youth setup

We’re delighted to confirm the appointment of Darren McEwan as our first Head of Youth Operations.

Darren joins after playing a key role in the youth setup at our county neighbours Clydebank as it earned SFA Quality Mark Gold status, and will work closely with coaches at each age group to continue to grow and enhance our pathways.

A childhood Sons supporter whose earliest memories of football involve standing on the terracing at Boghead, Darren has also spent time with Vale of Leven – and arrives at The Rock – sponsored by Marbill Coaches at an exciting time, with our U20s and U16s both winning silverware this month.

He said: “Having been involved in youth football for a number of years, the vision to provide young players the chance to progress along the club player pathway, was something I shared.

“To come onboard at this exciting point in the club’s history and lend support to the excellent progress that has already been made in developing the youth player pathways is a challenge I’m looking really enthusiastic about taking on.”

DFC Executive Director Cam Watson added: “We’re absolutely delighted to welcome Darren to The Rock. He has tremendous experience in supporting the development of high quality academy pathways and, as a local lad, now wants to bring that to Dumbarton.

“He will work closely with existing coaches to continue to develop our pathway at a really exciting time, with the new artificial turf ensuring that all our sides now have a venue at the heart of our community.”
