We’re pleased to confirm that work is set to begin on the installation of a new state-of-the-art astroturf pitch at The Rock, sponsored by Marbill Coaches, representing a significant investment in the club’s infrastructure.
The project will see the replacement of the existing natural grass surface with a synthetic pitch, designed to enhance durability, increase usage capacity, and support a broader range of football and community activities.
It will allow our women’s team and sides from our youth pathways the opportunity to play and train at the club’s iconic home ground for the very first time, making The Rock a true community hub.
The enhanced surface will significantly reduce ongoing maintenance costs associated with traditional grass pitches, while enabling increased utilisation throughout the year and reducing the risk of postponements.
There is also the potential for additional training sessions, community programmes, and external hire, all contributing to diversified and sustainable revenue streams.
The development is scheduled for completion in July, in advance of the 2026/27 Scottish Professional Football League season getting underway.
The project is being supported by funding from the Scottish Football Association, reflecting a shared commitment to strengthening club infrastructure across the Scottish game.
Director of Facilities and Assets at DFC, Jordan Brownlee, is leading the project and said: “Investing in our playing surface is a key step in securing the long-term sustainability of Dumbarton Football Club. The new astroturf pitch will not only provide a high-quality FIFA Pro grade surface for our players, but also open up new opportunities to engage with the wider community and generate additional income.
“We are grateful to the Scottish FA and their Pitching In fund, as the £150,000 award from their member support allocation has helped make this project a reality.”
During the construction period updates will be provided to supporters as works progress. The club looks forward to unveiling the new surface ahead of the upcoming season.
