Tam Falconer hasn’t taken long to make a big impression on the Dumbarton support. Even if it involved starring against the club, days after joining on loan.
The St Mirren youngster, who signed as part of a new Cooperation Agreement between the Saints and the Sons, has joined teammates Carrick McEvoy and Theo McCormick on loan at the Marbill Coaches Stadium.
He first featured during the Stirlingshire Cup, but then lined up against us for St Mirren in the late June friendly between the sides a week later – playing a starring role from left-back, and setting up the Buddies’ fourth goal.
After heading to Spain with Saints’ first team, and being named as a substitute for his parent club in their Premier Sports Cup clash with Arbroath at the weekend, Tam was one of eight Sons to make their debut in our victory against Stirling Albion on July 15.
And on his first senior appearance, he wasted little time making an impression – with a Man of the Match performance on the wing.
Now he’s hoping to make the most of his loan spell, as he paid tribute to the more experienced heads in the Sons squad for making him feel comfortable so quickly in a first team environment.
Tam said: “It was definitely a good start. I loved playing my first game in front of the fans at home, it was a really good experience and the boys helped me through it.
“It’s definitely important having the more experienced heads; they help you, talk you through it and know how to help you get better as a player as well. It’s helpful too having the guys I already know from St Mirren.
“Now we’ve got a lot to look forward to; with Carrick (McEvoy) and Theo (McCormick) also coming in, we know how each other plays and we can help each other.
“Going to grounds like Tynecastle and playing in front of big crowds is going to be a great experience, and hopefully we can get a positive result.
“Everyone so far has made me feel so welcome, hopefully from there we can get plenty of wins and personally I just want to get as many goals and assists as I can.”
Reflecting on the experience of lining up against his future teammates, he added: “Playing against the club a few weeks ago was a bit of a weird one. But it was good to see what I was coming in to.”
