DUMBARTON have claimed a vital and hard-fought 1-0 win away to Annan Athletic today.
Annan were first to threaten after nine minutes when Tony Wallace’s header from a corner hit the bar.
Sons responded with a Finlay Gray overhead volley which the home keeper turned round the post at close range.
Right on half time, Annan hit the bar again through Tommy Muir with an angled shot.
However, three minutes into the second half Sons led. Gregg Wylde (pictured), on his first league start of the season, powered home a header from Kalvin Orsi’s cross.
Late in the afternoon substitute David Wilson looked to play in his fellow replacement Michael Garrity, but the chance was gone after a heavy touch.
In injury time, Aidan Smith became the third Annan player to strike the bar. His volley from the edge of the box went over off the woodwork.
However, Sons held out for a priceless three points.
Dumbarton’s next game is at home to Stranraer next Saturday, November 5.
