DUMBARTON have ended 2022 with a narrow 1-0 win away to Albion Rovers today.
The first half could not be described as a classic. A Joe McKee free kick, turned away by the Rovers keeper, was as close as either side came to opening the scoring in the early stages.
The home side forced a flurry of corners, but no real saves of note, before they cleared a Ryan Wallace effort off the line.
The second half followed the same frustrating pattern. Sons had some set pieces to face but neither side was able to impose itself on the contest fully.
That was until the 69th minute when Ally Love slammed the ball home from close range to give Dumbarton the lead.
With 12 minutes left, defenders Stuart Carswell and Martin McNiff did brilliantly to clear Callum Wilson’s lob off the line.
Rovers had further opportunities as time ran out, with Sons looking to hit on the counter attack.
The match was seen out, and Dumbarton now get ready for this Saturday’s top of the table fixture at home to Stirling Albion.
