DUMBARTON have secured a place in round four of the Scottish Cup after a 3-1 win away to Clyde at New Douglas Park this evening.
Sons thought they had made a great start in only six minutes when Gregor Buchanan headed home from a corner, but the goal was ruled out for a foul.
But they had the lead on 19 minutes when David Wilson hooked home a shot from close range after a Joe McKee effort spun away from goal.
And on 36 minutes it was 2-0. Ryan Wallace had missed earlier with a header but converted a Gregg Wylde cross from close range.
Just before half time, goalkeeper Brett Long was on form, turning over a free kick from distance from Ray Grant.
The visitors’ lead could have been greater before the home side had a route back into the game on 64 minutes when Oliver McDonald converted at close range from a swerving cross.
The remaining minutes of the game were a bit fraught, although with no serious saves for Long to make.
But in the fourth minute of injury time, Sons could relax, Ross MacLean (pictured) cutting inside to fire home a deflected shot to make it 3-1.
The league campaign resumes next Saturday away to Bonnyrigg Rose.
