RUTH STRIKE EARNS THREE POINTS

A second-half rocket from Michael Ruth made it back-to-back wins for Dumbarton against Peterhead this afternoon.

Sons were on top in the first-half but couldn’t make their dominance count with a goal as Carlo Pignatiello came closest with a deflected strike.

The second period followed a similar theme with Ruth missing Dumbarton’s best chance in the opening five minutes of the half.

He put that right twenty minutes from time, however, when he brought the ball down on his chest before rifling a strike into the top corner from 20 yards.

The hosts held on to secure three points and move within a point of second place Peterhead with a game in hand – which takes place at Stranraer on Tuesday night.
