Kenny McInnes Praises “Excellent First Half” and Young Squad Resilience Despite Defeat to League Leaders
Our women’s side fell to a defeat in their penultimate away match of their SWFL Central-West side yesterday afternoon.
The ladies matched the current champions in the first half, going in one behind at the break but having made several good chances.
Unfortunately, a mixture of injuries and a need to chase the game meant the hosts were able to add four second-half goals to secure a victory.
Despite the scoreline manager Kenny McInnes was full of praise for his youthful side.
“Our first half performance was excellent and but for some clinical finishing evading us today we could have deservedly been ahead at half time,” he said.
“A few knocks to key players slowed us down in the second half and the couple of quick goals killed off the match as a contest midway through the second half.
“A lot of positives to take from the match though as we look to build on our recent form to finish the last two games strongly and prepare for next season.
“Both holding midfielders Mirren Esdale and Sophie Reid left nothing on the pitch and controlled large portions of the game against players who were vastly more experienced.
“Young Amy MacPherson was a joy to watch once again with her technical ability and vision.”
The ladies finish up their home campaign against Carron Ladies next Sunday at Mountblow.
With our men’s side finished for the season we would encourage all supporters to make use of a free weekend and to head down to celebrate our women’s side this Sunday.
