We’re delighted to have been recognised by SME News’s Scottish Enterprise Awards 2025 with an Excellence Award in Community Sports Development.
Despite a host of challenges off the park in recent years, we were recognised for our tireless community work – and for being an organisation that helping to keep Scotland at the very cutting edge of the sector.
The judging panel was particularly impressed by the Club’s deep-rooted commitment to inclusivity, accessibility, and innovation, which were consistently demonstrated across multiple aspects of its operations.
They said: “Following a recent change in ownership, the Club has visibly invested in revitalising both its facilities and community engagement. These enhancements are more than cosmetic – they reflect a clear strategic vision to ensure Dumbarton FC serves as a welcoming, multi-purpose venue where local families, supporters, and visitors alike feel a strong sense of belonging.
“The Club’s mission to be the heart of the Dumbarton community is evident in everything from its family-friendly matchday atmosphere and accessible infrastructure, to its diverse hospitality offerings and community-led initiatives. Hosting events such as a 10-day STEM Summer Club for children highlights the Club’s forward-thinking approach to using sport as a gateway to broader educational and social opportunities.
“Dumbarton FC has also made impressive strides in enriching the fan experience, with thoughtful amenities like the Community Lounge, heritage displays, and the introduction of The Rock Comedy Club, which has expanded the Club’s impact well beyond football. Feedback from supporters praises the Club’s welcoming spirit, high-quality hospitality, and memorable matchday experiences – testaments to a well-coordinated and passionate team effort behind the scenes.
“While there are opportunities for growth – such as improving international digital access to matches – the Club’s transparency, inclusivity, and focus on lasting community value positioned it as a deserving recipient of this year’s award. The panel commends Dumbarton FC for not only preserving its proud heritage but actively shaping a dynamic and inclusive future for sport in the region.”
