DUMBARTON FC is 150 years old today.
A century and a half ago, our club was founded, and has gone from strength to strength since then.
Eleven years after being founded, in 1883, we won the Scottish Cup, a competition in which we have been runners-up a further five times.
In 1891, we went on to share the first ever Scottish Football League championship with Rangers. The following year, in 1892, we were champions of Scotland outright.
Since then, our club has enjoyed various ups and downs, league championships, promotions, relegations and cup finals.
However, we have reached 150 years of being here for the football fans of our local area and further afield, and for countless players and managers who have served us over the years.
To all those who have seen us to this milestone, past and present players, managers, directors, sponsors, supporters and all others who have served us in any way, at any point during the past century and a half – thank you.
You have contributed to our club being a fixture on the local and national sporting scene for this remarkable length of time. Today, and at tomorrow’s game against East Fife, is a time to recognise and celebrate this achievement.
We look forward to seeing as many of you as possible for tomorrow’s game.
At the game, a special supplement celebrating our anniversary from this week’s edition of the Lennox Herald will be on sale for £1.
