Danny Lennon appointed Director of Football
We’re delighted to announce the appointment of Danny Lennon as Director of Football.
A vastly experienced figure across all levels of Scottish football – Danny joins to oversee our first team operations, and will advise and direct the club board on football strategy moving forward.
In his playing career he is best remembered for lengthy spells at Raith Rovers, which included scoring against Bayern Munich, and Partick Thistle.
Danny took his first step into management with Cowdenbeath in 2008, leading the Blue Brazil to successive promotions from the Third Division to First Division and earning a move to top-flight side St Mirren.
His success continued in Paisley, leading the Buddies to the League Cup glory in 2013 and maintaining their place in the Premiership for four seasons – before leaving in 2014.
After a spell as caretaker manager of the Scotland U21 side, Danny took the reins at Alloa Athletic where he won the 2014/15 Championship play-offs.
A short interim spell at Airdrieonians was followed by five years at Clyde, where Danny led the Bully Wee to promotion in 2019 – and became the club’s longest serving manager in 30 years.
Last season he spent another short spell as manager back at Airdrieonians, but now he’s set for a new challenge at The Rock – sponsored by Marbill Coaches.
Speaking for the first time in his new role after meeting boss Frank McKeown and the squad at training tonight, Danny said: “I’m proud to have been offered the opportunity to join Dumbarton. The club has a great deal of potential and I’m excited to play a part in realising that.
“My role will involve working with the board on football matters and supporting Frank and his coaching team. It was great to meet with them and the players tonight and I’m very much looking forward to working with Mario, Cameron and Frank moving forward.”
Owner Mario Lapointe said: “Danny is someone who is passionate about football; he is level-headed, a good communicator and a natural leader. Most importantly though he brings experience that can benefit the people around him. Including myself.
“Danny will represent men’s football on the board and will become the conduit between the club’s board and management and playing squad. I believe that Dumbarton needs experienced football leadership within it and Danny will bring that.”
Cameron Watson, Executive Director at DFC, added: “Danny’s experience, knowledge and passion for the game are second to none, and he’ll be a major asset to Dumbarton.
“We’re delighted that he will be joining us in such a vital role, and we’re all looking forward to working with him to drive things forward on the park.”
