Dumbarton earned a point against Montrose at Links Park this afternoon.
The hosts opened the scoring when a penalty was awarded following a challenge from Mark Durnan – Owen Stirton had his penalty saved by Shay Kelly, but the officials ruled for a retake.
Stirton stepped up again only to be denied by Kelly on a second occasion – only to tap in the rebound.
Sons equalised when Carlo Pignatiello stroked the ball into the bottom corner from Kalvin Orsi’s cross as the teams headed in level.
After the break, the visitors started brightly and got their reward after Aron Lynas was fouled in the box. Tony Wallace then stepped up and found the bottom corner from 12-yards.
Kelly made a couple of smart stops to keep Dumbarton in front but the home side found the leveller with a couple of minutes to go thanks to an Aidan Quinn header on 84 minutes.
Sons came closest to winning it with a couple of decent opportunities but couldn’t find a goal as they now prepare for the final home match of the season against Annan Athletic next weekend.
