Midfielder Ally Spalding joined on a permanent deal from East Kilbride in August 2026, after being a key target for boss Frank McKeown.

The 20-year-old started his career at Airdrieonians, but made his name with a breakthrough season at Arbroath – playing 35 times as the Lichties lifted the League One title in 2024/25.

Last summer Duntocher lad Ally made the move to our League Two rivals Elgin City on loan, where he was a standout performer, making 44 appearances – catching the eye of title winners East Kilbride with his form.

After rejecting a contract offer from Arbroath in the search of first team football, Ally made the move to K Park over the summer. He started in Kilby’s 5-3 victory against us in July, but then agreed a switch to line up in a Sons shirt for the rest of the season.

Boss Frank McKeown said: “Ally is still a young player, but has a huge amount of experience at this level – where he was a standout performer last season for Elgin City – and in League One, where he lifted the title with Arbroath. He is closing in on 100 senior appearances already and this is not often seen for someone of his age.

“He’s versatile and energetic, is capable of creating chances and scoring goals and brings a real composure under pressure when he’s on the ball.

“Ally is always someone who has caught my eye in opposition teams, and I’m delighted that we’ve been able to bring him to Dumbarton following months of pursuing him.

“He will be a huge asset to the group and fits in exactly with our recruitment model where we are keen to bring excellent young talent to the club.”
