It’s a quick turnaround for Dumbarton who are in midweek action Arbroath this evening [kick-off 7:45pm, live on BBC Alba].
Despite a positive second-half performance on Saturday, Sons failed to turnaround a 3-0 half-time deficit against Stenhousemuir with Carlo Pignatiello’s goal proving to be no more than a consolation.
The visitors will be looking to build on a 3-0 victory against Annan Athletic on Saturday and increase their lead at the top of the League One Table, currently leading the way by two points.
In the head-to-head with Arbroath, it’s Dumbarton who hold the upper hand with a 2-2 draw at the Rock in August followed up with a 3-1 win at Gayfield in October.
Boss Stevie Farrell was proud of the second-half showing on Saturday but admits his side could have done better as they found themselves well behind before the break.
Speaking post-match, he said: “We started the game well on Saturday and then made a bad error to give away a corner. We’ve given away three poor goals and we’ve got to take responsibility for that. That’s been our Achilles heel all season, I always fancy us to score and create chances but we are making too many bad decisions.
“This is the hardest gig any of us have been through in our football lives but you’ve got to embrace it and stand up to it. They are going to go through more important things in their lives that are still to come but the resilience they have built this season will help them.
“They are giving us everything. I’ve got so much admiration for them. They are making mistakes and it’s not going their way but nobody can say they aren’t giving this club everything.
“We can’t be irresponsible and make wholesale changes for every game but we’ll continue to drop guys in and out, especially this week where the games are coming quickly.”
Farrell reports that James Hilton will return to the squad this evening. Brett Long, Paddy O’Neil and David Wilson remain out.
