INJURY HIT SONS LOSE TO FIFERS

DUMBARTON have lost 2-0 to East Fife today on a tough afternoon when they were also hamstrung by injuries.

Some decent chances were created in the early stages, most notably when Ally Love’s lob dropped just wide of the post.

There was then a blow after 16 minutes when Gregg Wylde (pictured) hobbled off injured. Ross MacLean came on to replace him.

East Fife took the lead on 23 minutes, Aaron Steele heading home from a corner. That was followed by another enforced substitution, with Martin McNiff off injured to be replaced by Peter Grant.

The rest of the first half was a slog with no further scoring.

At the start of the second half, only a fine save by Brett Long from an Alex Ferguson shot kept the deficit at one goal.

Sons had plenty of the ball, but we’re struggling to force any significant openings even after increasing their firepower upfront.

And in the second minute of injury time, Ferguson slammed in East Fife’s second on the counter attack.

Sons now move on to a home double header, starting next Saturday against Elgin City.
