Match Report

Our women’s team were edged out 2-1 by Alloa Athletic this afternoon in a tight SWFL Central-West encounter at the Indodrill Stadium.

Gerry Gallacher and his side were without regular starters such as Sophie Reid and Teigen Calder while captain Eva McInnes was only fit enough for the bench.

Goalkeeper Kira Swallow was under early pressure – making stunning stops from Alloa’s Devyn Thompson and Amy Cully – before efforts from Mya Logan, Gracie Williamson and Gemma Russell at the other end.

Despite the chances the match would be goalless at the break.

Alloa would open the scoring early in the second half with Jenna Woods scoring a great individual effort.

Swallow and Alloa keeper Emma Allison both made great stops at both ends before we grabbed the leveller.

A Gemma Smith corner was headed home by defender Niamh McAleer for her first goal of the season.

We would end up on the back food with Swallow making more excellent stops to deny Thompson and Cully.

The Wasps would grab a winner near the end unfortunately, Amy Cully netting past Swallow with less than ten minutes remaining.

Amy MacPherson would come close late on but we would head back west without any points to show for their efforts.

We have a home match at Mountblow against Cumbernauld Colts next Sunday at 12:15pm before we stop for a winter break.
