Tom Lang was delighted to mark his second debut at The Rock – sponsored by Marbill Coaches with a clean sheet as we recorded a 3-0 victory over The Spartans on Saturday afternoon.
The defender was pleased with the afternoon and is now targeting more performances like it as we look to build momentum and put points on the board.
“It was good, but could have been better if we won 4-0! But it is just about keeping our standards high now and just trying to get as many points on the board as possible, we need more days like that, clean sheets, wins, so I enjoyed it.”
After limited game time in recent seasons with Falkirk, Lang was particularly pleased to complete the full 90 minutes and get back to playing regularly.
“That’s why I’m here, to play games and get my career back on track again,” he revealed.
“I enjoyed it. Hopefully until January I can play as many 90 minutes as possible now, every footballer wants to just play, it was good to get back out there, hopefully it’ll be the same again next week and the week after that and I’ll keep going.”
Despite only recently joining the squad, Lang was able to quickly establish an understanding with his defensive teammates.
“It can be really difficult, luckily I was in training on Tuesday and Thursday so I learnt all the boys’ names and stuff like that,” he explained.
“Today I thought it was alright, a couple of times you just need to switch on and think, ‘oh God what’s my name again’, but now all the boys have been talking to me to be fair and have been really welcoming, so that makes it a lot easier as well, after all the staff have been great to me.
“I think that is my job in the team, the gaffer’s told me he wants me to be a leader out there and command the boys, so hopefully I can do that as much as possible and just get the boys in the right positions at times, because they’re all good players.”
Tom returns to The Rock with experience of playing across the Scottish football pyramid, having most recently dropped from the Premiership for a second spell with the Sons.
And the defender believes that experience can help us as we look to challenge at the top end of the division.
“I can just do my best and try and help the boys as much as possible and try and guide them in ways on the pitch,” he explained.
“Obviously I’ve actually played in every division in Scotland, I’ve got promoted in this league, I’ve got promoted in League 1, I’ve got promoted in the Championship, so I know what it takes to win a division, so hopefully I can bring my experience and help the boys.”
With his second debut now complete, Lang will be hoping for another opportunity to add to his minutes in Dumbarton colours as we look to build on Saturday’s impressive result.
