Match Report
Sons progressed to the next round of the Challenge Cup with this 7-2 victory over Ardeer Thistle. After Sons opened up a two-goal lead early on, the remaining seven goals were scored in eight-minute spells either side of halftime.
After good work down the right, Adam Smith found Nathan Winter in the six-yard box and he knocked the ball home for close range for the opener. Five minutes later Max McArthur got the first of his hat-trick latching on to a short free kick from Lewis Duncan and driving home a long-range effort.
Ardeer then opened their account through Graham on 37 minutes which signalled a bit of a goal fest. Winter got his second 2 minutes later, Graham narrowed the gap two minutes after that before Max grabbed his second just on half time from the penalty spot.
At the start of the second half, a Jack Smith cross found Adam Smith well positioned to extend the lead further. Then on 51 minutes Max completed his hattrick with a long-range freekick that deflected off one of the many bodies in the wall.
He wasn’t finished there. Sons completed the scoring two minutes later when he slipped an inch perfect defence splitting pass to Hayden McSpadyen who made no mistake from inside the box.
