Women’s side strengthen backline with duo of defensive signings
We are pleased to confirm two new recruits to our women’s team ahead of the SWFL Central-West run in.
Central defenders Kirstin Breslin and Ellie Vernal have both agreed deals to join up with Kenny McInnes‘ squad for the conclusion of the league season.
The club are hoping to integrate both players into the squad ahead of a big campaign for the side next season with the remaining games of this season giving the girls a chance to build a rhythm with their new teammates.
Vernal started out with SWPL side Rangers and was with the Ibrox club for nine years before moving on loan to Partick Thistle in 2021 where she featured in the women’s top flight. She has also spent time with Central-West rivals Drumchapel United.
After suffering an injury, Ellie returned to Saint Anthony’s this season but following the folding of their women’s side she was free to join up with the Sons.

Fellow defender Kirstin Breslin previously played with Glasgow Girls but was also with St Anthony’s this season and has joined Vernal at the Rock.
Both made their debuts last weekend as the girls’ defeated Gleniffer Thistle.
Manager McInnes was overjoyed to welcome the new additions to his backline.
We’re delighted to welcome both girls to the team,” he said.
“We were immediately impressed with not only their obvious ability in training but the way they settled in so quickly with the rest of the players.
“Their experience gave great confidence to our young players on their debit against Gleniffer Thistle at the weekend and they were instrumental in our victory.”
Both players are available for Sunday’s match with Linlithgow Rose at Mountblow.
