Returned for a second spell at Dumbarton, eight years after a loan stint from Hearts that saw him net three times in 25 games.

Originally brought to The Marbill Coaches Stadium by Stevie Aitken in 2017, Ally’s pace and finishing saw him catch the eye of Sons fans – before he returned to his parent side in January 2018, and was loaned out League of Ireland Premier Division outfit Sligo Rovers.

A permanent move to Derry City followed, with Roy earning two call-ups for Northern Ireland’s U21s during this time.

He returned to Scottish football with Partick Thistle in 2019, before spending two seasons at hometown club Airdrieonians.

12 goals in 36 matches for Queen of the South in the 2021/22 campaign led to a move back across the Irish Sea, as he joined Northern Irish side Glentoran.

Ally returned to Scottish football with Morton in 2023, and spent time with East Kilbride, Alloa Athletic and Stirling Albion prior to returning to G82 in June 2025.
