YOUNG SONS WIN IN CAMPBELTOWN

Sunday 28th July 2013

The Dumbarton 19s team at Campbeltown.

OUR newly formed under-19s defeated Campbeltown Pupils AFC yesterday 2-0 in an entertaining encounter played at Kintyre Park in the former royal burgh.

And it was a special day for the McCallum family — not only did Donald score both of Dumbarton’s goals, his dad (Peter) refereed the game whilst brother John played for the host team!

Donald’s outstanding contribution to the match ended a terrific week for the youngster which started with him scoring in the Stirlingshire Cup final.

19s coach Richard Salvetta was understandably delighted with the win and the occasion.

He said: “It was a very competitive game and our lads probably just shaded it overall. We had a mixture of players who could play at 17s and 19s level so the fact we gelled quickly was pleasing.

“I was an excellent performance, given it was our first run out of the prea-season.”

Richard also praised the hosts for the day. “We were superbly treated by the Campbeltown people, from organising our travel to post match meals, everything was terrific,” he said.

“On behalf of Dumbarton FC I’d like to thank everyone who made us feel so welcome.”

Sons lined up as follows : Allen (17s): Martin, Gemmell, Deans (Capt), Cook: Kelly (17s), Howe (17s), McIntyre, McKenna: McCallum, Beaton. Subs (all used in second half) – Clark (17s), Hopkins (17s), Bonnar (17s), Fulton (17s).
