DUMBARTON’S under-20s squad recorded a well deserved 5-2 victory against Annan Ath at Murray Park last night and it was a personal triumph for Donald McCallum who scored all of Sons goals.
McCallum, who has been knocking on the door of the first team, had an outstanding match with coach Mark Spalding pleased with his effort and the overall team performance.
Mark said : “Donnie scored all 5 goals and his overall play was excellent.
“He’s lost a bit of confidence recently due to not scoring as much as he’d have liked and has been frustrated. Once the first goal went in, the pressure was released and he showed why he’s on the fringes of the first team.”
Sons went into the half-time break 2-1 down, a fact that disappointed Mark.
He said: “We didn’t start the game well and individual errors cost us the first two goals. We managed to pull one back before half time.
“From a first team point of view, it was great to have Jordan Kirkpatrick back and to play 90 minutes. His quality and experience helped the younger players and he was excellent overall.”
