Today sees our women’s side return to G82 for our final home game, and the penultimate match of the season.
Kick-off is at 2:15 PM at East End Park in Dumbarton, as the team returns to the venue following a run of home games at OLSP.
The sides last met back in January, when the Sons ran out 7–0 winners away to the league’s bottom side at New Tinto Park.
The team will be aiming to complete the double over their Govan opponents, as Gerry Gallacher and his side look to finish their maiden campaign under the Dumbarton FC banner on a high.
Gerry spoke ahead of the match, making it clear that he and his side won’t be taking the visitors lightly, despite their position in the table.
He said: “Benburb, along with our final game next week away to champions Bishopton, will be good measures of where the girls are at and what’s needed from everyone for next season.
“A full squad should be available, and I’m looking forward to getting all the girls involved.
“Benburb are like us—new to the league this season—and probably, like ourselves, already have one eye on next season.
“While they’ve been near the bottom since the start, they’ve shown huge improvement recently, with some narrow defeats. I’m sure Benburb will be full of confidence and motivated to go all out for their first win this Sunday, and we need to be ready for that.”
Niamh McAleer is looking for her and her teammates to repeat their earlier result against Benburb this time out.
She said: “We’re looking to get some goals in, again, and if there’s anything the coaches want us to try tactically looking into next year this is the time to do it, and hopefully get a good result to go along with it.”
Gerry and his backroom team will welcome back Gemma Russell and Olivia Oliver to the squad this weekend, while Caitlyn Connelly and Neamh MacNeil join Mya Logan on the sidelines.
Benburb lost 3–1 to Gleniffer Thistle last time out in a close encounter and are currently on a run of six straight defeats, stretching back to their 3–0 win over Clydebank in late February.
