Tomorrow sees our women’s side head on the road for the ninth and final time in the league this year as they close out their SWFL West campaign away to champions Bishopton, looking to cause an upset and spoil their title party.
Kick-off is at 1:15 PM at Park Mains High School in Erskine.
The girls go into the game off the back of an emphatic 8-0 defeat of Benburb last week in their final home game.
The sides last met back in early February, when the Sons went down 4-0 to the league leaders at Mountblow. With the girls also going down 5-1 in a cup match back in August and Gerry and his players will be hoping to turn the tide of recent results.
Gerry spoke ahead of the match, saying that this final test will be a good barometer of where the girls are at the end of their first campaign.
He said: “It’s our final game against league winners Bishopton and it will be good measure of where the girls are at and what’s needed from everyone for next season.
“We’re hoping to show progression from the results earlier in the season.”
Captain Eva McInnes is hoping the team can spoil their opponents title party.
She said: “We’re feeling confident going into it and as much as we want them to enjoy their day celebrating the league, we need make sure that we’re taking our chances and being clinical and just go for it and just beat them and ruin their celebrations.”
The team can still finish a very promising third in the table if results go their way on Sunday.
On the season, and her first half-campaign as captain, Eva said: “I can’t say I’m not happy. We’ve done well, we’re in the league, doing well, an improvement from last year so just need to go and win it next year.”
Bishopton beat Gleniffer Thistle 2-0 last time out in a close encounter and are currently on a run of eleven straight wins, stretching back to December 1st and have only conceded once in their last nine matches.
