WHAT’S IN A NAME?

Wednesday 4th April 2018

WHEN Grant Gallagher came on for Dumbarton in the 59th minute of last night’s game against Dundee United, he was creating a small bit of history.

That was because, with Scott Gallacher and Calum Gallagher also on the field, three unrelated players with the same surname (although slightly varied) were playing together for Sons in a competitive game.

It is thought to be the first time this has happened on a competitive basis.

The trio were only on the field together for 10 minutes before Calum was substituted by Mark Stewart.

All three also played a part in Saturday’s game against Livingston, but were never on the field at the same time.

Grant’s late introduction as a sub in that game was his first competitive action since September 2016.

It goes without saying that everybody at Dumbarton is pleased to see him back to match fitness.
