BRECHIN CITY will fly the part-time flag with Dumbarton in next season’s Championship after a breathless play-off final win over Alloa on penalties.
Going into the second leg with a 1-0 lead, City were beaten 4-3 on the day by the Wasps, meaning extra time and then penalties.
Despite four ex-Sons scoring for Alloa – Scott Taggart, Jordan Kirkpatrick, Andy Graham and Calum Waters – Brechin took advantage of two missed spot kicks by other Alloa players to win the shootout 5-4.
Sons and Brechin will meet in the second tier next season for the first time since 1994. They were last in the same league, the old Second Division, in season 2011/12, when Dumbarton took eight points out of 12.
Congratulations Brechin, and we look forward to four big games next season!
