WALK TO THE ROCK 3

Sunday 6th September 2015

A fund-raising walk, organised by the Sons Supporters Trust in support of DFC’s youth Academy, has been hailed a success.

Saturday’s Walk to the Rock, the third such event, was a 7-mile trek with around 100 participants (and 4 dogs) took part in the trek from The Erskine Garden Centre to the Cheaper Insurance Direct Stadium.

Youth squad players from all four of the club’s Club Academy Scotland teams joined fans and coaches on the journey, all all donned Dumbarton colours for the event.

Sonstrust director Alan Findlay said that the walk was a great success.

He said: “It went really, really well. We were pleased with the turnout and the obvious commitment by players and parents.

“The spirit was phenomenal and a good day was had by everyone.

“I’d like to thank Sons boss Stevie Aitken for coming along to see the walkers off and we must also thank the staff at the Erskine Garden Centre who very co-oprative when we descended on their car park early in the morning!

“Chris Watson and his team did us proud with a tremendous spread of food and drinks on our return to the stadium and we are very grateful to him for sponsoring the event.

“Finally, my personal thanks go to Richie Salveta the club’s head of youth, who was the driving force behind getting everyone to take part. His enthusiasm and commitment to what we are trying to do at the club with the YDI is infectious.”

A fundraising total will be announced in due course.
