VITAL WIN FOR SONS AGAINST CLYDE

Saturday 12th February 2022

A TURBO-CHARGED start for Dumbarton, resulting in three goals within the first 21 minutes, powered the Sons to a crucial three points against Clyde at Broadwood this afternoon.

Ross MacLean opened the scoring with a right-footed shot from outside the box to the bottom left corner of the home side’s goal on 8 minutes.

Just over ten minutes later Stuart Carswell made it two for Dumbarton with a similar strike from a central position.

Seemingly moments afterwards it was 3-0 to Sons as MacLean (pictured) grabbed his brace, this time with a shot from the left side of the six yard box.

Clyde struggled hard to get back into the match from there. Rob Jones struck back for them on 34 minutes to leave Sons still two up at half-time.

The second half produced no more goals, despite chances and half chances at both ends.

The match drew to a close with a flurry of substitutions and Clyde’s Lewis Jamieson being dismissed for a second yellow card incident just short of 90 minutes.

Dumbarton closed out the match during five minutes of time added on to secure an important, morale-boosting win.

The result lifts the Sons to seventh place on 26 points in cinch League One.

That is ahead of next Saturday’s home clash with Alloa Athletic, who sit a point behind the men from the Rock in eighth.

Then a week later there is the long trip to Peterhead, who are in ninth place and two points behind Dumbarton, but with two games in hand.
