VITAL WIN FOR SONS AGAINST BAIRNS

Saturday 15th February 2014

A STORMING second half fight-back secured Dumbarton a deserved 2-1 victory against Falkirk at the Bet Butler Stadium this afternoon.

The win means that the men from the Rock remain undefeated in the SPFL Championship in 2014, extending their overall unbeaten run to seven games — while also remaining the highest scoring team in the division, with 42 goals.

Sons were under the cosh for much of the opening period against Falkirk, defending determinedly but putting themselves under pressure by losing the ball too easily in the middle of the park.

On 28 minutes Mark Beck gave the home defence the slip and put Rory Loy through to open the scoring for the Bairns.

After the break Dumbarton mounted a serious comeback, putting the visitors under pressure and drawing level on 62 minutes. Colin Nish floated a ball in and Mitch Megginson finished with a firm strike at close range.

Ten minutes later Sons took the lead. Jordan Kirkpatrick, who was also named Sonstrust Man of the Match, beat the Falkirk ‘keeper with a spinning half volley off the outside of his foot.

Dumbarton stayed in control for the remainder of the game and will now be preparing for another mouthwatering home fixture against Raith Rovers next Saturday, February 22.
