DUMBARTON pipped Forfar Athletic 1-0 in this League One bottom of the table clash crucial to both sides.
Striker Isaac Layne made his long-awaited return to the action up front with James Wallace as the home side faced the bottom club at the chilly C & G Systems Stadium.
In the first half Sons had most of the chances with Ryan McGeever heading wide, Tomas Brindley trying a shot, and Wallace hitting a powerful 20-yard strike.
In the 35th minute skipper Morgyn Neill was booked for bringing down Daniel Scally, then home keeper Sam Ramsbottom saved Scott Fenwick’s close-range header. Just before half-time Neill headed over the bar and Wallace shot over.
Club skipper Stuart Carswell replaced Nick McAllister for the second half, before good play by Ross Forbes set up chances for Neill, McGeever and Adam Frizzell. The 64th minute saw Rabin Omar and PJ Crossan replace Ruaridh Langan and Brindley, and six minutes later Robert Jones came on for Layne.
With ten minutes to go, Conner Duthie replaced Frizzell. With four minutes left Jones tried to set up Wallace, but keeper Marc McCallum saved, but then Sons scored the goal they needed when Duthie (pictured) hit home a Crossan cross — his first goal for Sons.
