Thursday 20th August 2020
DUMBARTON FC has noted today’s updated guidance from Scotland’s First Minister with regards to players training and supporters returning to matches.
Outdoor contact sports can resume on Monday 24th August, more than five months after lockdown was imposed.
Our players and management team will therefore return to training next week to begin preparation for the 2020/21 season.
This is a major step towards the new campaign and we know that everybody on the footballing side of DFC will be looking forward to returning.
We also note that an indicative date of Monday 14th September has been set for the return of fans to stadiums, initially in limited numbers.
This of course pre-dates our next scheduled fixture, our Betfred Cup tie at home to Dunfermline Athletic on Tuesday 6th October.
While we are encouraged by this news, we recognise that this is an extremely precarious situation which depends on Government guidance being followed.
We urge everybody, at Dumbarton FC and beyond, to keep up the good work and follow the guidance in order that this target date can be met.
This possibility also helps us to plan to move forward with season ticket sales for the 2020/21 campaign. We will have more information on this when arrangements are confirmed.
Lastly, we recognise that our supporters are anxious for news of players being added to the squad, following a pleasing retention of 10 of last season’s players and the arrival of Denny Johnstone.
Movement continues on this front, and we will of course keep you informed of signing activity when transfers are confirmed.
In the meantime, keep well and keep supporting the Sons!
