TWO TOUGH TESTS COMING UP

Friday 9th September 2016

SONS entertain league leaders Hibernian at the Cheaper Insurance Direct Stadium this weekend, and then St Mirren at home again next Saturday.

Dumbarton go into week five of the league campaign eight points behind the league leaders, who are unbeaten and top the division.

Last season meetings between the two sides in the SPFL Championship produced two fine home wins for the men from the Rock, as well as two defeats at Easter Road.

The results were: Saturday 8th August 2015 – Dumbarton 2 Hibernian 1; Saturday 17th October 2015 – Hibernian 4 Dumbarton 2; Saturday 27th February 2016 – Dumbarton 3 Hibernian 2; and Tuesday 26th April 2016 – Hibernian 4 Dumbarton 0.

Tomorrow’s game against Hibs will have Greg Aitken in charge as match referee. Mr Aitken’s 2016/17 journey has so far seen him officiate at 6 games and the last time he was man in the middle in a Sons match was in November last year in what was a thrilling 3-3 draw with Raith Rovers. Assistant referees will be David McGeachie and Mark McHendry.

Manager Stevie Aitken is looking forward to pitting his skills against Hibs, but has a note of caution to send. “It’ll be a very, very tough game tomorrow. Neil Lennon has got them flying and with four wins already and leading the pack, the marker is there for all to see.

“For our part, as usual, we’ve prepared as well as we can and it’s a challenge that we’re going to meet head on.”

In teams news, Andy Stirling will miss this game having picked up a knock in training, but Garry Fleming has shaken off his recent injury woes and is available for selection. Also on the comeback trail is Frazer Wright, but Sam Stanton misses out tomorrow.

The next home game for the Sons is on Saturday 17th September 2016, versus St Mirren. The game is sponsored by Signs Express (Glasgow)
