SONS second quarter of fixtures gets underway tomorrow wth a tricky game at Cappielow against Greenock Morton.
The ‘Ton sit 5th in the Ladbrokes Championship and are 5 points ahead of Dumbarton who occupy the 7th spot in the table.
Stevie Aitken, who lists the Greenock club amongst his former employers as a player is typically looking forward to the game.
He said : “The matches at Cappielow are always tight and competitive. My first game in charge at Dumbarton was against Morton and we managed a 3-2 win and that would be a good result tomorrow! But we are fully aware of what’s ahead of us. Jim (Duffy) always has his players well organised and I expect a very hard game.”
Barry Cook is tomorrow’s match ref – his 3rd game this season involving DFC. Assistants are David Roome and David Dunne.
The obvious connection between the clubs as mentioned previously is via Sons boss Stevie Aitken. Aitken started his senior career with Greenock Morton, where he played for eight years (before moving to Stranraer) making 113 appearances.
Both clubs have had players who wore the blue and white of Morton and the black and gold of Dumbarton. Recent recruits to that list include Darren Barr, Robert Thomson, Ross Forbes, Andy Graham, Mark McLaughlin, Willie Gibson, Iain Russell and not forgetting fans favourite Paddy Flannery!
In addition to the still sidelined trio of Stuart Carswell, Danny Handling and Grant Gallagher, manager Aitken will be without the services of Christian Nade (knee) and David Smith (hip) tomorrow.
Also giving cause for concern is Craig Barr who has been unwell for most of the week and there will be a late decision on his fitness.
However, Dougie Hill (pictured) is added to the squad after missing out with injury last week.
