A second-half penalty from Tony Wallace was enough for Dumbarton to make it three league wins in a row with a 1-0 victory against Elgin City this afternoon.
Sons were knocking on the door for much of the afternoon and hit the woodwork four times throughout the 90-minutes before finally finding the breakthrough midway through the second period.
Ryan Wallace was the first to feel that frustration in the opening minutes, and he also had a header cleared off the line as first-half went on.
Carlo Pignatiello was next to be denied by the crossbar on the stroke of the interval and when Tony Wallace’s angled effort struck the post, it started to look like it might be one of those days.
That was until the 67th minute when Kalvin Orsi was brought down and Wallace stepped up, just about squeezing his penalty underneath Tom McHale.
Finlay Gray could have sealed the points in the last few minutes when he rounded the goalkeeper but struck the post from a narrow angle, though it wasn’t to matter as Sons held on for the victory.
Scottish Cup action is on the agenda next weekend with a trip to Annan Athletic on Saturday.
