Tommy Robson arrives at The Rock
Tommy Robson is the latest addition to Frank McKeown’s squad for the new season, inking a two-year deal to become a Dumbarton player subject to SFA approval.
The full-back, was a standout performer for playoff finalists Clyde last season, playing 47 games for the Bully Wee – and turning out 75 times for them in total over the two seasons.
He began his career in the English Premier League with Sunderland, making his Black Cats debut under Sam Allardyce in 2016.
After a loan spell with Limerick, Tommy moved north of the border with Falkirk before Partick Thistle was his next port of call.
A lengthy stint with Queen’s Park saw Tommy play a vital role in back-to-back promotions as the Spiders got to within the brink of the William Hill Premiership. After more than 100 games in the Southside of Glasgow and having captained the side on a number of those occasions, Tommy moved to Clyde, and now he’s a Son.
Gaffer Frank McKeown said: “Getting a player of Tommy’s quality and experience will further help to strengthen our defensive unit, and we’re excited to see him in a Dumbarton shirt.
“He was a standout performer in a very good Clyde team last season, and is a player with a great left-foot and a terrific engine for getting up and down the park. First and foremost Tommy is a natural defender and is very good in one-v-one situations, however there’s no doubt he will add real quality to our attack going forward.
“With Ali Omar and Tommy as natural left-sided players and Kristian Webster and Mikey Doyle being naturally right-sided, we’re delighted with the balance we have in our defensive ranks at this stage of the transfer window.
“It’s been fantastic to get some business tied up early this summer, however given that the transfer window closes in August and that the loan window closes in September, there will no doubt be more movement between now and then.”
