THISTLE EASE PAST SONS WITH 3-0 WIN

Saturday 25th August 2012

DUMBARTON’S first visit to Maryhill in six years ended in a solid beating, with Sons going down 3-0 to a confident Partick Thistle side.

On a high from victories in their first two League games, and unbeaten in five, Thistle exercised control over the game for significant periods of both halves.

The visitors found themselves 1-0 up within 17 mins, as Doolan headed a cross into the far top corner of the net.

Sons had their chances too. But it took hard work and a superb Alan Lithgow clearance on the line to keep the deficit to just one by the break.

In the second half, the Jags again came out with force and determination. Erskine made it 2-0 on 63 mins, striking home from six yards. Bannigan added to Sons’ woes on 70 mins, claiming a third in similar style.

Dumbarton are in action again on Tuesday 28th August, visiting Livingston in the Scottish Communities League Cup. Then it is a First Division trip to Morton on Saturday 1st September.
