THINKING OF DAVIE WILSON AND HIS FAMILY

Thursday 19th August 2021

WE have been extremely sorry to learn this week that our former player and manager Davie Wilson is battling dementia.

Davie joined us towards the end of his playing career, turning out 61 times for Sons as a player and scoring three goals. He was part of our legendary championship-winning squad of 1972.

He then became assistant manager to Alex Wright before becoming our gaffer himself from 1977 to 1980.

Davie then returned as manager in the later part of the 1983/84 season and completed the job of managing us to the Premier Division. He left again in 1986, with Alex Wright returning as manager.

Davie’s family have recently announced that due to ongoing Alzheimer’s and dementia issues, Davie will no longer attend Ibrox Stadium to watch Rangers FC.

The thoughts of everybody at Dumbarton FC are with Davie, his family and his friends.
