THE thoughts of all at Dumbarton FC are with our former player and manager Bertie Auld and his family following the news that he is suffering from dementia.

Bertie was only 16 years old when he made his debut for Dumbarton as a player in October 1954. In total, he scored 11 goals for the club across 35 games. His statistics as a player are available through The Sons Archive.

After being a Sons player, he of course became a Lisbon Lion with Celtic in 1967. He then returned to Boghead Park for a stint as manager in 1988.

Everybody at Dumbarton FC is saddened by the announcement by Celtic today regarding Bertie’s health. We are all thinking of him, his family and his friends.
