SQUAD CHANGES

Wednesday 11th May 2022

MANAGER Stevie Farrell began the process of assembling a squad for season 2022/23 last night, with players attending the Dumbarton Football Stadium for talks.

Leaving the club following the expiry of their contracts, with our thanks for their efforts and very best wishes for the future, are:

Sam Ramsbottom
Eoghan Stokes
Stephen Bronsky
Paul Paton
Sam Muir
Patrick O’Neill

Mark Lamont and David Hopkirk, who have each been taking a break from football since the early stages of the season, have also now formally left the club.

As reported yesterday, our loan players – Kieran Wright, Carlo Pignatiello and Adam Hutchinson – have returned to their parent clubs.

Playing contracts for next season have been offered to Conner Duthie and George Stanger, while Paddy Boyle has been offered a player/coach role.

Nine players are already under contract until the end of next season. They are:

Ryan McGeever
Edin Lynch
Gregor Buchanan
Stuart Carswell
Kalvin Orsi
Ross MacLean
Joe McKee
Callum Wilson
Gregg Wylde

Kristoffer Syvertsen and Joshua Oyinsan were unable to attend the stadium last night, and their futures will be discussed in due course.

Details of the Dumbarton careers of the players leaving the club are below.

Sam Ramsbottom

Sam joined Dumbarton in March 2021, with the season about to resume after the second national lockdown.

He went on to play 17 games in the congested ending to the campaign, keeping five clean sheets in the process.

He kept a further three during 27 games this season, giving him a total of eight clean sheets in 44 games.

Eoghan Stokes

Eoghan joined us from Airdrieonians during the 2021 close season.

He went on to take part in 29 games, scoring five goals, including in victories against East Fife and Alloa Athletic. He is pictured celebrating scoring the winner in the latter.

Unfortunately, Eoghan’s season came to a premature end through injury at Cove last month. We wish him well in his recovery.

Stephen Bronsky

Stephen joined us in mid-January after playing as a trialist in a 2-0 win at home to East Fife.

He went on to play 13 games for Dumbarton, operating regularly at central defence for much of the second half of the season.

He also played in the second leg of the playoff semi-final against Edinburgh City.

Paul Paton

Paul signed for Dumbarton during the 2020/21 close season from East Kilbride.

He turned out in a Sons shirt 26 times in total, scoring three goals, including the equaliser at Airdrie in October with Dumbarton having eight men on the field.

Injuries hampered his game time at the start of the season, but he was a regular in the second half of the campaign.

Sam Muir

Sam also joined us during the close season, playing in the full Premier Sports Cup campaign and early league fixtures.

He also provided an assist for Kristoffer Syvertsen to open the scoring in the final scheduled league fixture of the season, against Clyde.

In total, Sam turned out for Sons 11 times.

Patrick O’Neill

Patrick never played for Dumbarton, having joined the club in August as backup after an injury to goalkeeper Calum Erskine.

He spent most of the second half of the season out on loan to Troon, but was recalled for Cove Rangers away match in April after an injury to Sam Ramsbottom.

Mark Lamont

Work commitments meant that Mark was barely able to play for Dumbarton after signing for us for a second time.

He only managed to play as a substitute in the Premier Sports Cup tie away to Partick Thistle.

In total, Mark has played 37 times for Dumbarton across his two spells with the club.

David Hopkirk

David was another to join us during the close season and scored the winning goal in our pre-season friendly against Motherwell.

He played for Dumbarton competitively 11 times before deciding to take a break from football in October.

He has now formally left the club, and we wish him well for the future, as we do with all the players who have now left.
