THE 2022 Sonstrust Burns Supper is scheduled to take place at the Moreroom.com Stadium on the evening of Friday, January 28, 2022, and spaces can now be booked.
Having first taken place in early 2020, it was hoped to stage the event again in 2021, but of course public health restrictions meant it could not take place.
However, it is very definitely our aim to have the event this time around, and we are delighted that the majority of the bill we had in place for 2021 have confirmed again.
And at just £30, supporters and Burns afficionados alike can enjoy a night of quality entertainment, songs and poetry.
The Immortal Memory will be delivered by Professor Gerard Carruthers, of Glasgow University’s Robert Burns Centre. He is also a lecturer at the University and is a world-renowned source of knowledge on all things to do with Scotland’s National Bard.
Switching speeches this year, Graham Hill returns to the Sonstrust supper, this time to give the Toast to the Lassies. A local school teacher and current president of Sandyford Burns Club in Glasgow, Graham’s Immortal Memory in 2020 was extremely well-received. Among the other venues Graham has spoken at have been Oxford University and the Caledonian Club in London.
Replying for the Lassies will be Yvonne Waring. A talented actress who has performed at the Edinburgh Festival many times, Yvonne’s talents on the Burns speaking circuit are becoming very well-known. She was very well-received at another local supper this time last year and we are looking forward to hearing her speak at the stadium.
Other spots on the bill are occupied by members of the Sons support. Robert Ryan will provide musical entertainment on the night while club poet Stephen Watt is also back for the second time to recite poetry.
Having excelled with his address to the haggis last year, Jack Brough will be reciting Tam o’ Shanter this time around. Reprising his role as master of ceremonies will be Sons honorary president John Steele, and Colin Lawrie will once again perform on the bagpipes.
