SONS WIN AT WORKINGTON

Dumbarton recorded a 4-0 victory against Workington on Saturday afternoon in their final pre-season outing.

Two goals in either half secured a comfortable result for Stevie Farrell’s side, who once again took the opportunity to experiment ahead of the new season.

Ross MacLean headed in the opener for Sons on the stroke of half-time with Ryan Blair curling in a free-kick in added time at the end of the first period.

After the break, substitute Declan Byrne nodded in from close range before 17-year-old Luca Vata scored his first goal for the club on 89 minutes.

The victory brings Dumbarton’s pre-season campaign to an end with the competitive action starting next weekend when Sons travel to Airdrieonians in the Viaplay Cup.
