A DISAPPOINTING performance from Dumbarton in Dumfries saw them slump to a 3-0 defeat to Queen of the South this afternoon.
In the first half Sons found it difficult to get going, and the forward momentum was all with Queens. Both sides also struggled with the slippery, rain-impacted artificial surface.
On 33 minutes the home side went 1-0 in front. John Baird converted from the spot after referee Thomson adjudged Scott Taggart to have handled the ball in the area.
The pace picked up significantly at the beginning of the second half. Dumbarton, with their first real chance of the game, almost drew level as Keiran MacDonald’s superb, swinging drive was just tipped away by Zander Clark.
But in the space of two minutes Sons were badly punished for defensive lapses.
First, Mark Durnan nodded home for the Doonhamers after a half-cleared corner. Then Derek Lyle, in acres of space, glanced a header past Jamie Ewings to make it 3-0.
Next up for Sons is an away trip to Livingston next Saturday.
